Engineering has been a part of my life since I was very young. I remember being 6 years old and my father taking me to a FIRST Robotics Competition. He worked as a teacher-advisor with Penfield’s Robotics Team, FRC 1511, Rolling Thunder. I knew immediately that I wanted to do robotics when I was older, and always wanted to be able to join Rolling Thunder when I was in high school. When I was 9, I started in FIRST’s Lego League. The first team I was on was called the Ninja Bricks, but one year later, I became a part of a new team called The Lords of the Brick. With Lords of the Brick, I spent 4 years learning the basics of mechanical engineering and programming. In the beginning, I worked with some great older students who helped me learn, but very quickly I found myself as the student in charge of the robot and the programming. With another student, Noah, we started taking our robot further and further every year, making it more capable and more complex. In 2018, our final year as a team, we won the Finger Lake Regional Championship and went to the FIRST World Championships in Detroit, Michigan.
